Garden Renovation: Planting Scheme & Soft Landscaping.

We were contacted to draw up a planting scheme to compliment a house renovation project in Worcestershire. With further building work scheduled, planting had to be carried out in two stages so as not to interfere with this. The first stage was to be carried out in the autumn – this included planting a hornbeam hedge and planting in the raised beds. The choice of plants chosen were aimed to maximise floral impact, minimise maintenance and with an English cottage garden theme in the front of the property, plants such as alchellia, delphinium, digitalis, heuchera, hosta, lavender, salvia, and sedum were selected. In the rear garden, the desire to have a more Asian theme in terms of the planting was requested; here the use of acer, bamboo and stipa was selected to reflect this.

Following completion of the building work, the second phase was to level off and lay high quality turf so as to complete the garden. This preparation included stone removal and the removal of the weed burden through herbicide control prior to rotavating. Owing to the hot weather, watering during the job (and afterwards) was essential to ensure a high quality finish and a successful lawn.
